Demonstrate technical examples which show how to integrate legacy systems (most common in state and local government agencies) into the federal data aggregation system, to speed adoption.
Many state and local agencies rely on disparate technologies for collecting and reporting data. Over the years, proprietary and deprecated systems have become the norm in some agencies as a result of IT or procurement policy. There is a strong push to now open and report the data to the public but there needs to be some federal support in demonstrating how to accomplish this. Most will argue that the training and effort needed to automate and properly extract quality data from older/proprietary systems will be costly. However integration with data.gov can be accomplished if state and local agencies see working examples with included documentation on how the data was collected and reported (and from what system/vendor).
